Structure terms


1. Beam - A member of a structure that is supported on two ends to resist bending.






Eg: Bench

2. Cantilever - A beam with only one end supported.







Eg: Diving Board, Wings of airplane, Ceiling fan




3. Strut - A member of structure that is subjected to compression.

4. Tie - A member of structure that is subjected to tension.
